The Science of Optimism

Session Six

Welcome to Session Six

Why is optimism important for creating a better and more sustainable world?

Hi there, so glad you’re still with us! At this stage, we may have reached the most nitty gritty part of our climate optimist training, which is the whole science behind WHY optimism matters. And more so — how we, as a species, can even be optimistic in the first place.

If you’ve ever been curious about optimism - and more specifically climate optimism - this is your video! We will cover the neuroscience behind positive thinking and tie it into the evolutionary steps that have taken us to where we are today. If we understand these steps, we can begin to fully see the importance of optimism in creating a climate-just and even more beautiful world.

In this session:

  • Why optimism is essential for climate action

  • The difference between optimism and toxic positivity

  • The neuroscience of optimism and three reasons why we should be optimistic

Homework:

Nurturing Optimism

The only homework I will give you from this session is to start reflecting on how optimistic you are now, and if there are ways to start creating more optimism in your life.

Attached below is a worksheet with some questions to start asking yourself. Maybe print it out and hang it on the wall so that you can see it every day when you wake up? If you can prime yourself to be an optimist, you can begin to change your life. And as you do, watch as the world around you begins to shift as well!

Good luck, dear optimist, and remember to choose to be light, because the world needs it!

Below are questions to start asking yourself to up your optimism game.
