Sustainable Activism
Session Eight
Welcome to Session Eight
Heal yourself to heal the world!
If you’re still with me, it means you are really committed to being an agent of change and helping co-create a better world! In this session, we will cover what it means to not just be a change maker but to stay one for years to come. It’s about sustainable activism and how to care for yourself just as much as you care for the world. Remember, the movement forward is only as sustainable as you are!
In session four we covered that to heal the world, you must heal yourself first. This is ongoing work and not something to take lightly. When we try to change the world, it's easy to feel like our work is too important to care for ourselves, but that couldn’t be more wrong. After today’s session, I hope you’ll understand just that!
In this session:
Why taking care of yourself as a climate activist is essential
How to think about our work in climate as a road trip
The happiness hormones — what they are, how to produce them, and how to use them for your purpose!
Homework:
Happiness Hormones
Your homework today is to reflect on how you’re currently fueling or not fueling all four of these happiness hormones. What areas could you maybe improve and how?
Make sure you find things that work for you! If you’re not into meditation, then a slow walk in the morning or fifteen minutes of just sitting with your coffee might do. Find your thing and remember that your fuel is unique to you, so whatever your body says ‘yes’ to is what you should go for.
Also, remember that you may have old truths hovering inside that you haven’t dealt with yet, so don’t be afraid to try new things. You might be surprised by how much you actually love it!
Below you’ll find a cheat sheet of the four happiness hormones and tips for how to fuel them!
